Trump signed the package <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/administration\/5384512-trump-signs-big-beautiful-bill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">into law on Friday<\/a>, but Musk has argued it adds too much to the federal debt, rather than reducing spending as he had pushed.<\/p>\n<p>Yang, 50, sought the Democratic nomination for president in 2020 and unsuccessfully ran as a Democrat for New York City mayor in 2021 before founding the independent Forward Party.<\/p>\n<p>The Forward Party is scheduled <a href=\"https:\/\/home.forwardparty.com\/national_volunteer_call_20250708\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">to hold a volunteer call<\/a> Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after its creation, the <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/blogs\/blog-briefing-room\/3577267-yangs-forward-party-merges-with-groups-led-by-former-gop-officials\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forward Party announced<\/a> it had merged with right- and left-leaning groups to create a larger movement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Building a positive unifying third party movement is going to be difficult but is also exactly what millions of Americans have been waiting for,&#8221; Yang said in a statement to The Hill in 2022 about the effort. &#8220;That&#8217;s why we will succeed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Musk, who was once one of the president&#8217;s closest allies and parlayed his massive Trump campaign donations into a special adviser role at the White House overseeing the Department of Government Efficiency, has vowed to back independent candidates in future election cycles, particularly ones who will challenge Republicans who voted for Trump&#8217;s spending package, which he <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/technology\/5330697-elon-musk-trump-big-beautiful-bill-congress\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">has referred to<\/a> as a &#8220;disgusting abomination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste &amp; graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1941584569523732930\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Musk wrote Saturday<\/a> on X. &#8220;Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yang <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.andrewyang.com\/p\/a-big-dark-bill\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">similarly blasted<\/a> Trump&#8217;s legislation.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hate the bill and see it as irresponsible and dehumanizing,&#8221; he wrote in a Monday post on Substack. &#8220;It has something to despise for everyone.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How does something like this pass?&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged people to join the Forward Party to counter Republicans and Democrats in Congress.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;How to breed leadership in a system that rewards its opposite?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;By changing the system itself. It\u2019s the only path out.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Trump, meanwhile, has sought to tamp down third-party talk, noting in a <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/114808616176041421\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Truth Social post<\/a> that &#8220;they have never succeeded in the United States.&#8221; Trump briefly ran as a third-party presidential candidate in 2000 but quit after testing a few Reform Party primaries.
