A French prosecutor has opened a criminal investigation into social platform X and its owner, Elon Musk,\u00a0on accusations of\u00a0\u201ccreating bias in France\u2019s democratic debate.\u201d<\/p>\n
The investigation comes after Musk\u2019s artificial intelligence (AI) company, xAi,\u00a0deleted\u00a0multiple posts<\/a> from its chatbot Grok\u00a0that included\u00a0antisemitic comments.\u00a0Among them,\u00a0Grok\u00a0called itself “MechaHitler” and insinuated that the Jewish people were controlling Hollywood.<\/p>\n French National Assembly member Thierry Sother and European Union Parliament member Pierre Jouvet asked Arcom, France\u2019s\u00a0digital content\u00a0regulator, to look into Grok\u2019s\u00a0behavior Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cSince the July 4th\u00a0update, Grok has substantially changed behaviors leading it to comment antisemitic ideas, to praise Hitler and even to support Le Pen,\u201d Sother said to French media\u00a0Lib\u00e9ration<\/a>.<\/p>\n X has not immediately responded to requests for comment.<\/p>\n X and Musk have been on French and European radars since January when \u00c9ric Bothorel, a French parliamentarian, raised concerns over X\u2019s use of personal data, a biased algorithm and the reduction of diversity in posts.\u00a0<\/p>\n He also denounced Musk\u2019s personal interference within the platform, calling it \u201ca true danger and a threat for our democracies,\u201d according to\u00a0Lib\u00e9ration<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The European Union has been investigating X for two years\u00a0on accusations it breached\u00a0the EU\u2019s platform regulation law, the Digital Service Act.
