{"id":1262,"date":"2025-07-11T17:08:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-11T17:08:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/logicalware.net\/?p=1262"},"modified":"2025-07-15T19:24:28","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T19:24:28","slug":"t-mobile-scraps-dei-while-awaiting-deal-approvals-from-fcc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/logicalware.net\/index.php\/2025\/07\/11\/t-mobile-scraps-dei-while-awaiting-deal-approvals-from-fcc\/","title":{"rendered":"T-Mobile scraps DEI while awaiting deal approvals from FCC"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/t-mobile-dei-fcc-approval\/\">NewsNation<\/a>) \u2014 T-Mobile says it will eliminate its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/john-stossel-dei-dismantled\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/john-stossel-dei-dismantled\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diversity, equity and inclusion<\/a> (DEI) programs as it awaits regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for two acquisition deals.<\/p>\n<p>In&nbsp;a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcc.gov\/ecfs\/document\/10709912829018\/1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a>&nbsp;to&nbsp;the FCC, the wireless carrier said it would end its DEI policies &#8220;not just in name, but in substance.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;T-Mobile will no longer have any individual roles or teams focused on DEI,&#8221; the company said. &#8220;T-Mobile is also removing any references to DEI on its websites and will ensure that company websites and future communications do not have any references to DEI.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/taxes-change-tbig-beautiful-bill\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tHow your taxes will change under \u2018big, beautiful bill\u2019\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>T-Mobile is awaiting federal approval of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/ap-business\/ap-t-mobile-to-buy-almost-all-of-u-s-cellular-in-deal-worth-4-4-billion-with-debt\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/ap-business\/ap-t-mobile-to-buy-almost-all-of-u-s-cellular-in-deal-worth-4-4-billion-with-debt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">partial acquisition of U.S. Cellular<\/a>, a deal valued at $4.4 million, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/news\/network\/t-mobile-kkr-joint-venture-to-acquire-metronet\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.t-mobile.com\/news\/network\/t-mobile-kkr-joint-venture-to-acquire-metronet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">acquisition of internet service provider Metronet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BrendanCarrFCC\/status\/1942992414404157570\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">social media post<\/a>, FCC chair&nbsp;Brendan&nbsp;Carr called the move &#8220;another good step forward for equal opportunity, nondiscrimination, and the public interest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Carr has threatened to block deals involving companies with DEI initiatives, telling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-03-21\/fcc-s-carr-threatens-to-block-m-a-for-companies-with-dei-plans\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-03-21\/fcc-s-carr-threatens-to-block-m-a-for-companies-with-dei-plans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bloomberg News<\/a> that &#8220;any businesses that are looking for FCC approval, I would encourage them to get busy ending any sort of their invidious forms of DEI discrimination.&#8221;<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/politics\/trump-sues-california-eggs-prices\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tTrump administration sues California over cost of eggs\t<\/a><br \/>\n<\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Several prominent companies have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/ap-business\/ap-which-us-companies-are-pulling-back-on-diversity-initiatives-2\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.newsnationnow.com\/business\/ap-business\/ap-which-us-companies-are-pulling-back-on-diversity-initiatives-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">scaled back or set aside DEI initiatives<\/a> in recent months, including Target, Amazon, McDonald&#8217;s, Walmart, Ford and Meta Platforms. The FCC has previously gone after other companies, <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/5253421-fcc-brendan-carr-comcast-license-abrego-garcia-case\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/media\/5253421-fcc-brendan-carr-comcast-license-abrego-garcia-case\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">such as Comcast<\/a>, for their DEI practices.<\/p>\n<p>Anna M. Gomez, a Democratic-appointed member of the FCC, criticized T-Mobile&#8217;s decision.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In yet another cynical bid to win FCC regulatory approval, T-Mobile is making a mockery of its professed commitment to eliminating discrimination, promoting fairness, and amplifying underrepresented voices,&#8221; Gomez <a class=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AGomezFCC\/status\/1943002714465861710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote on X<\/a>. &#8220;History will not be kind to this cowardly corporate capitulation.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(NewsNation) \u2014 T-Mobile says it will eliminate its diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs as it awaits regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for two acquisition deals.
