President Trump confirmed late Sunday that deputy chief of staff for policy Stephen Miller is at the top of his list of possible contenders to permanently fill the role of national security adviser.<\/p>\n
\u201cStephen Miller is at the top of the totem pole. I think he sort of indirectly already has that job,\u201d Trump told NewsNation\u2019s Libbey Dean aboard Air Force One when asked whether Miller was under consideration for the post.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s a very valued person in the administration,\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n
Trump added that his timeline to pick a replacement is \u201cwithin six months.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump last week reassigned former national security adviser Mike Waltz to be his new nominee to be U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. At the same time, he tapped Secretary of State Marco Rubio to serve as national security adviser on an interim basis.<\/p>\n
