President Trump said in an interview that aired Sunday he will again extend a pause on a ban against TikTok in the event that the app\u2019s parent company does not divest<\/a> from its popular social media platform<\/a> by the latest deadline.<\/p>\n \u201cLet me ask you about TikTok, sir, would you extend that deadline if there\u2019s still no deal?\u201d NBC News\u2019s Kristen Welker said in the \u201cMeet the Press\u201d sit-down.<\/p>\n \u201cI would,\u201d Trump said, responding to Welker.<\/p>\n The president also said he has \u201ca little sweet spot in my heart” for the app, noting its popularity among young Americans.<\/p>\n Early last month, the president signed an executive order<\/a> barring enforcement for 75 days of a law passed by Congress last year requiring TikTok\u2019s parent company, the Chinese-owned ByteDance, to divest from the app or deal with a ban in the U.S.<\/p>\n Trump originally gave TikTok a 75-day break from a ban earlier in his second term.<\/p>\n In early January, Trump questioned what would motivate him<\/a> \u201cto get rid of TikTok.\u201d By then, his personal account on the platform had received 1.4 billion total views, with 24 million views per post on average.<\/p>\n TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew also thanked the president in January for his commitment to search for a solution that protects<\/a> the availability of the app in the U.S.<\/p>\n \u201cOn behalf of everyone at TikTok and all our users across the country, I want to thank President Trump for his commitment to work with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States,\u201d Chew said in a January post on the platform.<\/p>\n The Hill has reached out to TikTok for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" President Trump said in an interview that aired Sunday he will again extend a pause on a ban against TikTok in the event that the app\u2019s parent company does not<\/p>\n
